Counterfeiter, forger nabbed by police
San Luis Police detectives arrested an SLO resident for forgery and counterfeiting on Thursday.

According to SLOPD, the department had received several complaints from around the county regarding counterfeit money being used at local businesses over the past few weeks. Police say investigators were able to close in on a suspect who was passing counterfeit money at two of the victim businesses.
Police identified Brandon Oakley, 29, of San Luis Obispo as the suspect. Police say they also discovered Oakley had an extensive criminal history and several outstanding warrants for burglary.
Detectives say they received information that Oakley was possibly staying with his girlfriend at 2122 Harris in SLO where they began surveilling the residence.

Police say they observed Oakley and his girlfriend leave the home, at which point detectives contacted Oakley and placed him under arrest for the outstanding warrants. While searching Oakley detectives say they found $500 in counterfeit 50s, 20s and 10s. Detectives said that after the arrest they obtained a search warrant for the residence.
SLOPD contacted the Secret Service to assist with the investigation and service of the search warrant. During the search of the location detectives say they and Secret Service agents located approximately $1,500.00 in completed counterfeit bills, along with counterfeit manufacturing equipment, counterfeit money in various stages of production, narcotics and narcotics paraphernalia.
Oakley was booked into county jail on two counts of burglary, altered bills, and two counts of forgery. His bail was set at $40,000.
Detectives say the investigation is ongoing and there may be additional counterfeit bills that have not yet been identified in the community.
