A Placer County man has been arrested on suspicion of vandalizing and causing extensive damage to four businesses in Auburn last week.
According to a Sheriff’s Office press release, a County Sheriff’s sergeant responded to a burglary alarm at Auburn Pet Clinic on Flood Road around 4 AM on Monday, April 13. Upon noticing the front door of the clinic had been forced open and hearing a loud banging noise inside, he retrieved his K-9 partner Sonic from his vehicle and called for backup.
That was about when 29-year-old Jeffrey Deets (of Grass Valley) came walking out with items from the clinic stuffed into his pockets.
As responding deputies arrived and began checking the building, they discovered a chaotic scene — broken computer screens and various items strewn about the place, totaling about $75,000 in damage.
Shortly thereafter, deputies reportedly found Deets’ vehicle outside MK Automobile on Lincoln Road, about a block away from the clinic. There they found five cars had had their windshields smashed, side mirrors broken off, and broken windows on the businesses’ garage door, totaling about $10,000 in damage.
Deets allegedly also tried to kick in the glass doors of JeffCo Plumbing, as evidenced by footprints found at the scene, and, at the Texaco/Extra Mile gas station next door, four pump handles had been removed from the pumps and left lying on the ground.
