Trio of teens arrested for Milpitas burglaries
Three San Jose teens have been arrested on burglary charges after an alert Milpitas resident spotted them allegedly prowling in the backyard of a Seacliff Drive residence earlier this month.
According to Milpitas police, officers responded to the area when a resident reported that someone was knocking loudly on her door at about 11 p.m. on June 5. The resident told police that she saw the two 16-year-olds and one 14-year-old enter her backyard when she failed to open the front door. The resident yelled at the suspects, who then fled the scene on foot.
The resident was able to provide police with descriptions of the three boys, as well as the suspect vehicle, a silver Honda Civic. Officers, who were already heavily patrolling the area due to an increase in residential burglaries, arrived within minutes and stopped the suspect vehicle. The victim identified the three teenagers as the suspects and they were arrested at the scene.
The suspects, whose names are not being released because they are minors, were booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall for attempted burglary and conspiracy. Milpitas detectives also connected them to two additional burglaries and an attempted burglary that had occurred in the city in late May.
Police warn that the teens’ alleged burglary methods are common and residents are urged to be alert. Burglary suspects often knock or ring the doorbell to determine if a victim is home before gaining entry to the yard or house. If the resident opens the door, police say suspects often use a ruse about looking for a lost pet or fictitious person.
Residents are reminded to immediately call 911 when similar circumstances occur. They should provide detailed descriptions of all suspects and vehicles, including license plate numbers and distinguishing characteristics.
Anyone with information on this incident or other similar incidents is asked to contact Milpitas police.
