DUBLIN — After nine recent arrests his ‘get-out-of-jail-free card’ finally went kaput. Waseen H. Abuhwaidi, 27, has set a record for arrests and releases in Alameda County with zero-bail.
Since his arrest on May 12, Abuhwaidi may no longer take advantage of zero-bail policies. These controversial new rules were enacted to protect inmates in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
He presently remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail for assault, carjacking and second-degree robbery. He is ineligible for release on bond, pending arraignment on May 15.
Notwithstanding his probation status, Abuhwaidi was arrested and released eight other times since March 11.
Abuhwaidi has been on a crime spree, according to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office. In between getting arrested and released, he allegedly committed assaults, burglaries, thefts and stole vehicles.
When he was arrested again on May 12, Dublin police saw him beating a victim as they arrived. He fled from the scene of the crime, but he was quickly apprehended.
