LIVERMORE — Working in collaboration with Tracy PD, Livermore police officers arrested one of two suspects wanted for a jewelry robbery. A second suspect was already in custody in Alameda County for unrelated charges.
The suspects allegedly committed a smash-and-grab robbery at the Costco Warehouse store in Tracy on May 7. Approximately $150,000 worth of jewelry was stolen.
Two masked men entered the store and used a sledgehammer to smash open a display case. One of the suspects allegedly brandished a firearm, before both men fled by car.
Jeffrey S. Potter, 30 of Livermore, was taken into custody by Livermore police on May 16. Potter was later transported to San Joaquin County Jail, where he was booked for the robbery. He remains in custody on open charges, in lieu of $250,000 bond.
His alleged accomplice, Richard C. Hoffman, Jr., 28, remains in custody in Alameda County at Santa Rita Jail. Hoffman was arrested in Castro Valley on May 14 on charges unrelated to the Costco robbery. He is being held in lieu of $750,000 bond.
Hoffman was subsequently identified as the second suspect in the Costco robbery. The getaway car that was used in the Costco robbery was recovered by Tracy PD at Hoffman’s residence in Manteca.
In addition to robbery and vehicle theft charges, Hoffman faces numerous drug-related charges.
