On the evening of May 20 84-year-old Rober Mitchell (“Mitch”) Clark was discovered deceased in his home in the 4000 block of Campton Road. He had been murdered.
Although an autopsy was performed on May 23, the details are not yet being released. However, the incident was confirmed as a homicide.
The continuing investigation included interviews, a canvassing of the neighborhood, as well as collaboration with the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office, and Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, to review the case.
Six days after the homicide, 22-year-old Wesley Lee Starritt was identified as a person of interest and arrested.
Starritt was booked on unrelated charges including violation of probation, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and other offenses.
Subsequently detectives executed a search warrant at his home, also on Campton Drive, and obtained more evidence.
Although no arrest for the murder has yet been made, the Eureka Police Department asserts that “we feel confident we have our suspect now in custody and that an arrest for murder will soon be made. Further details will be forthcoming following Starritt’s anticipated arrest for murder and other serious offenses.”
