CULVER CITY – When four burglaries had occurred at three different Culver City schools since June 2020, Culver City P.D. Detectives deftly captured the action on surveillance. Classroom doors had been pried open with miscellaneous tools – to steal electronics, computers, and office supplies.
The crimes and images of the suspects led to an ID of two brothers living in L.A. – Johnathan Ortiz and Josue Ortiz. “On July 21st 2020, Culver City Detectives arrested both suspects without incident,” said Manuel Cid, Acting Chief of Police. “They were both booked at the Culver City Police Department for PC 459, Commercial Burglary.”
Once the school-burglar brothers were arrested, there was property to be recovered from the bevy of burglaries. A July 21st search warrant was immediately obtained and served for the suspects’ residence.
“Detectives recovered a substantial amount of evidence including, laptops, tablets, musical equipment and various office equipment that belonged to CCUSD, SMUSD and LAUSD schools,” said Sergeant Andrew Bellante.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office swiftly filed multiple counts of Commercial Burglary on both Johnathan and Josue on the morning of July 22nd.
