According to the CHP in Merced, K9 Beny assisted in discovering meth in a vehicle during a traffic stop in this story on their official Facebook page-
“On July 23, 2020, at approximately 1910 hours, a CHP officer conducted an enforcement stop on a 2020 Nissan Altima for a violation of 21703 VC (Following too close).
During the traffic stop, the officer noted several factors and tradecraft that led him to believe the solo male driver was engaged in criminal activity.
CHP K9 Officer “Beny” was brought in to conduct an exterior sniff of the vehicle and alerted to the odor of narcotics.
At the conclusion of the enforcement contact the officer was granted written and verbal consent to search the vehicle.
During the search, the officer located approximately five pounds of suspected methamphetamine in a gift bag located in the suspect vehicle.
The driver was subsequently arrested for violation of 11378, 11379(a), of the Health and Safety Code and 12500(a) of the Vehicle Code.
