Border Patrol agents at the El Centro sector have intercepted four U.S. citizens on suspicion of smuggling narcotics.
Just after 7 AM on August 3, a 2006 Hyundai Elantra with three occupants approached the Highway 86 checkpoint. A K-9 detection team alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, prompting a secondary inspection.
At that point, the four occupants were asked to get out of the car and patted down for possible weapons. Authorities say a plastic-wrapped package containing suspected methamphetamine was found in one of the occupants’ brassiere.
Used syringes and a vape pen containing a gold-colored oil were also found on another occupant. A large amount of cash totaling $1,485 was found in the driver’s purse.
The occupants, contraband, vehicle, and money were all ultimately turned over to Department of Homeland Security Investigations.
