The morning of August 19th , 51-year old Spencer Gilbert was being driven to court by a woman known to him; he was due in court for a DUI arrest and evading police charge.
They arrived at the parking lot on Tulare Street between L and M Streets in downtown Fresno.
For an unknown reason, Gilbert became upset and reacted by stabbing the woman repeatedly while they were
both in the car.
Gilbert dropped a large knife and started to walk away before a citizen called for him to stop.
He complied and when deputies assigned to work at the nearby Superior Courthouse arrived, they arrested Gilbert for attempted murder.
As of the time of this writing, Gilbert remains in custody at the Fresno County Jail with an assault with a deadly weapon charge. His bail is set at $55,000.
The 61-year old victim was transported to Community Regional Medical Center. Her injuries were serious but she is expected to recover.
