Search and Seizure – X-Ray plus K-9 Reveal: Over $2 Million in Hard Narcotics Nabbed
CALEXICO BORDER – A single sweep nabbed a significant score of dangerous narcotics on 10/01/2020. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Calexico port of entry stopped a 55-year-old anonymous male driver at 4:00 am on Thursday.
The CBP officer referred the driver and a 2006 Mistubishi Outlander for further examination, due to anomalies found during an attempt to smuggle fentanyl and methamphetamine. Upon further examination, various areas of the vehicle revealed anomalies worthy of a deeper look.
“The X-ray imaging system operator identified anomalies in all four doors, dashboard and quarter panels of the vehicle,” said CBP. Next, Officers “screened the vehicle with a K-9 and the detector dog alerted to the doors and rear bumper.”
The search revealed “20 packages of fentanyl weighing 48 pounds, and 121 packages of methamphetamine weighing 517 pounds hidden in the floor, gas tank, seats and spare tire of the vehicle,” said CBP. “Officers immediately arrested the subject and turned him over to Homeland Security Investigations for further disposition,” along with the vehicle and narcotics.
All total: “U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Calexico port of entry seized approximately 565 pounds of dangerous narcotics valued at more than $2 million in a single catch.”
