CLAREMONT – An immediate response to a burglary-alarm activation produced quick results. Minus-
one-minute on scene Claremont Police Department Officers arrived at the Euro Café on 546 East Baseline Road at 4:10 AM on 10/07/2020.
Officers on foot approached the café from the west. The suspect inside ran toward the north-side picture-
window and hurled a fire-extinguisher through it.
Diving through the shattered-glass window, the burglar landed amidst broken shards, then fled on foot.
Officers encountered the fleeing man and a chase ensued through the parking lot.
The suspect was apprehended in front of Von’s market and taken into custody. “The suspect’s vehicle
was located behind the business and staged for a quick getaway,” said Council Member Reece.
A vehicle-search produced additional evidence from another city. Officers located a Corona coffee
shop/café’s stolen property.
“The suspect, Jerry Baca (50) from Upland, was transported to the Claremont Police Department Jail,
where he was booked for Commercial Burglary and for a Parole violation,” said Council Member Reece.
Further investigation produced additional results, announced later: “Baca has previously been arrested
by the Claremont Police Department for commercial burglary.” And, “It was later confirmed that the
business in Corona had also been burglarized.”
