November 7, 2020 – Ventura County, Ca.
It was quite a busy morning in the pre-dawn hours of November 3rd for 20-year-old Fillmore resident Isaiah Avalos.
According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Det. Shawn Pewsey, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Fillmore patrol units received a report of “a driver who fled on foot after his vehicle struck a pole.” As deputies hurried to the scene, they received a second report of another similar motor vehicle accident nearby.
As that sounded like the more recent event, deputies high-tailed it to the second reported scene. Upon arrival, they spotted Avalos running away from the location and began a foot pursuit. With detectives from the Fillmore Police Station joining the chase, Avalos continued to evade and avoid contact. But after “a lengthy foot pursuit,” the cops caught up with their man and took him into custody.
The ensuing investigation determined that Avalos had been the subject of a “missing at-risk person” report and that he was driving “an unreported stolen vehicle.” As detectives began to unravel Avalos’ activities over the prior week, they discovered he had been engaged in multiple vehicle burglaries and had been involved in another hit-and-run vehicle accident. Investigations into those multiple incidents remain ongoing.
In the meantime, Avalos was transported to Ventura County Jail, where he was charged with Unlawful Taking of a Vehicle, Felony Hit and Run, Misdemeanor Hit and Run, and Petty Theft.
