Merced CHP K-9 Officer Beny finds over $1M in suspected drug money during traffic stop

“On December 11, 2020, at approximately 1728 hours, a California Highway Patrol officer stopped a white, 2019 Ford panel van for speeding.
During the course of the contact, the officer noted numerous factors and tradecraft that led him to believe the driver was engaged in criminal activity.
CHP K9 Officer, Beny was called in to conduct an exterior sniff of the vehicle. Beny subsequently alerted to the odor of narcotics on the van.
A search of the van revealed two suitcases and a black brief case in the cargo area. All three suitcases were full of U.S. currency. Some of the currency was heat sealed in freezer bags. It is believed the currency was derived from the sale of drugs.
The driver disclaimed knowledge of the currency and signed a disclaimer. A charge of 11370.6(a) of the California Health and Safety is pending a filing with the District Attorney’s Office. The total of $1,017,750.00 was seized.”
