“On December 11, 2020, the La Mesa Police Department responded to multiple calls regarding gunshots heard in the parking lot of the Marketplace at Lake Murray Village, 5600 Lake Murray Boulevard.
Responding officers located the unresponsive victim and discovered he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso. Officers immediately began CPR and rendered aid until medics arrived.
The victim, Di’Marcus Lavonne Mayes (29 years old) of Escondido, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
On December 18, 2020, Detectives arrested the suspect, Alexander Cesar Nghiem, outside his residence in the City of San Diego. Nghiem was booked into San Diego County Central Jail for a violation of 187 PC-Murder.
At the request of the victim’s family, we are sharing a photograph of the victim.
