SAUSALITO — A single gunshot stopped a kidnapping—leading to the arrest of the victim’s ex-boyfriend and his two buddies. The woman escaped unharmed and no other injuries were reported.
Officers responded to multiple calls from neighbors on the 500 block of Easterby Street shortly before midnight on January 11. They reported hearing a commotion and a single gunshot. One caller reported hearing a man demanding that
someone “get in the car.”
A witness who lives with the victim saw her being forced into a car. He fired a warning shot into the ground, and the woman was released.
Responding officers observed a Ford sedan speeding on Easterby Street and stopped it. Three men from Turlock inside the vehicle were detained as kidnapping suspects.
Investigators learned the woman was contacted at her front door by 34-year-old Zackary K. Wasylin. He asked her to come outside to speak with his brother, 59- year-old David L. Wasylina.
Upon exiting her residence, she was confronted by her ex-boyfriend Partner Hooten, a 46-year-old tire service technician. Hooten allegedly held the victim against her will, dragging her about 100 feet toward the suspect vehicle.
During a struggle, Hooten purportedly threatened to kill the woman and himself, while waving a firearm in the air. Hooten released the victim and fled with the Wasylina brothers, after the witness fired a warning shot.
On January 12 at approximately 1 a.m., officers arrested the three suspects. They
were booked into Marin County Jail.
Hooten remains in custody in lieu of $100,000 bond on open charges for –

False imprisonment
Felon in possession of a firearm
Conspiracy to commit a crime
Possession of a controlled substance
Zackary Wasylina faces charges for conspiracy and possession of a loaded firearm. Bond for his release was also set at $100,000.
David Wasylina faces charges for conspiracy and possession of a controlled substance. Bond for his release was set higher at $150,000.
