Mountain Gate man turns himself in after allegedly shooting roommate in the hand
A Shasta County man turned himself in after allegedly shooting one of his roommates in the hand during an altercation, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
On the morning of Saturday, January 30, 63-year-old Edward Stephen Williams called the Sheriff’s dispatch to report there was a gunshot victim at a residence on the 19000 block of Flintstone Avenue in Mountain Gate, north of Shasta Lake City.
Williams told dispatch that he was the shooter, and that he was sitting in his car waiting for deputies to pick him up at the Shell Station on Wonderland Boulevard.
Indeed, one of the victims — a 29-year-old woman — also called to report she’d been shot in the hand while trying to wrest a gun away from Williams. She recounted that there’d been a dispute over property that eventually escalated to Williams pulling a gun on her and her boyfriend.
Deputies responded to the residence and spoke with the woman and her boyfriend, who elaborated that that the two of them had gotten into a dispute with Williams over property. At some point Williams pulled a gun, intending to shoot the woman’s boyfriend, but instead shot the woman in the palm of the hand as she was trying to get the gun away from him.
Williams also reportedly fired several shots at the floor before ultimately leaving the residence.
Meanwhile, deputies were also sent to the Shell Station to pick up Williams, whom they say was cooperative. Deputies also found a loaded, unregistered .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun in Williams’ vehicle.
Williams was placed under arrest and booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. The victim who was shot was treated at the residence for a non-life-threatening injury.
