EL MONTE – When a man was murdered in 1978 and found dead the next day – stabbed over 40 times – the question remained, “Who would do such a thing?”
DNA evidence gave the answer in 2021 to a murder which took place on or about January 7, 1978, at the Spic and Span Motel. Law enforcement had been summoned to the motel room near the corner of Valley Boulevard and Shirley Street.
An employee of the motel had discovered the lifeless Rudolfo Chavez (42). There were no answers to this horrific discovery – until science raised a hand.
Forty-three years later, Sheriff’s Detectives and Attorneys in the Cold Case Unit produced DNA proof that linked Anthony Davis (dob 9/20/59) to the death by stabbing. Now, the family will have answers to this shocking devastation, which has loomed unanswered for decades.
As a result, Anthony Davis (61) is tied to the crime, and has been charged with one count of murder. Charges took place on February 18th, and Davis is expected to face arraingment on the 19th in Department N of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Pomona Branch.
The ongoing Case #KA126733 remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
