Witnesses help police locate and arrest man for kidnapping, battery

“On 02/17/2021, the Auburn Police Department received a call for service of a possible kidnapping in the 100 block of Nevada Street. Officers interviewed several witnesses and obtained descriptions of the suspect, victim, suspect vehicle, which included the license plate. It was reported the suspect was yelling at the victim and then he forcibly pulled the victim into the vehicle and drove away.
The officers’ investigation indicated the suspect was 38 year old Samuel Dodd, who was arrested later in the day in Colfax.
Auburn Officers also located the victim and confirmed that she was safe. The investigation also confirmed that Dodd and the victim knew each other.
Dodd was booked into the Placer County Jail where he was booked with a bail amount $290,000 on the following charges:
· 207 (a) PC Kidnapping
· 236 PC- False Imprisonment
· 243 (e)(1) PC- Battery on a spouse
Lieutenant Michael Garlock stated, “Not only am I pleased with the officers’ thorough investigation, but I am extremely appreciative of the witnesses who provided us with the pertinent information. Without the citizens helping us, it would have been much more difficult to locate this suspect.”
