Costa Mesa High School Teacher Busted – Again – for Drugs
NEWPORT BEACH, CA – A Costa Mesa High School Teacher has been arrested for the second time in two months for drug related charges.
, 39, of 3721 Fenn St. in Irvine, was taken into custody early Tuesday morning, May 26th, at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach, located at 1107 Jamboree Road, on suspicion of possessing cocaine.
Fertig was also reportedly arrested April 4th by Irvine police in the parking lot of an Irvine Elementary School less than a half mile from her residence. Irvine police say she appeared to be under the influence of a stimulant at the time and was found to be in possession of a white powdery substance.
The events leading to Tuesday’s arrest began to unfold just before 2 am when Fertig’s husband, Marc, 40, also of 3721 Fenn St. in Irvine, was approached by a Newport Beach police officer in the Hyatt parking lot because, according to the officer, Mr. Fertig was “twitching uncontrollably”.
Once contacted, Marc Fertig admitted to possessing cocaine and showed the officer a straw with white residue that ultimately tested positive as cocaine. He then gave permission for police to check his room, according to Sgt. Evan Sailor of the Newport Beach PD.
Police went to room 420 of the Hyatt and found Lisa Fertig inside along with a prescription medication bottle that contained usable amounts of cocaine, said Sailor.
Both Marc and Lisa Fertig were arrested for suspicion of drug possession and later posted $20,000 bail before being released.
Lisa Fertig, who teaches 10 – 12th grade special education, English and Literature at Costa Mesa High School, had reportedly been put on unpaid administrative leave by the district following her April arrest, though district Spokeswoman, Laura Boss, declined to state the reason for the leave.
