“At 7:19 a.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2021, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call from a security officer from a motel located on the 4300 block of Madison Avenue in Sacramento County.
The caller stated that when he looked into the window of a room that should be vacant, he saw weapons, high capacity magazines and a silencer laying on the bed. Deputies arrived at the motel and found an adult male subject known to law enforcement inside the room. The subject was initially uncooperative and refused to exit the room.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Detail (SED) and Critical Incident Negotiation Team (CINT) arrived to assist patrol deputies in evacuating adjacent rooms and gaining peaceful compliance. After a 2.5 hour standoff, negotiators were able to convince the man, who was the only occupant, to walk out of the room where deputies detained him without incident.
Detectives obtained a Search Warrant signed by a judge to search the room and vehicle belonging to the subject who was identified as Daniel Philip Cordero, 32 years old of Galt. The search revealed an AR15 Rifle that had been modified to be considered an assault rifle under California Penal Code, a semiautomatic handgun, ammunition, extended ammunition magazines, silencer and ballistic safety equipment. All of the items seized are being held as evidence in the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Property Warehouse.
Cordero was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on multiple felony weapons charges including felon in possession of a firearm. At this time, no further suspects are outstanding. No further information is available.”
