Two men from Hemet have been arrested after they allegedly assaulted an Asian couple at the Ontario Mills Mall.
The couple, as well as suspects Tuvorius Mencer (34) and Terrell Plaines (31), were inside the Levi’s Outlet Store at about 5:15 PM on April 4, 2021, when the assault took place. Mencer and Plaines reportedly attacked the couple “after having an exchange of words regarding social distancing,” according to the release. “During the incident, the suspects punched the victims multiple times, causing visible injuries. Two additional victims were also physically assaulted by the suspects when they attempted to intervene.”
Mencer allegedly assaulted an Ontario police officer who was trying to keep him from running away. Mencer was arrested at the scene on the charges of violation of civil rights, felony assault, assault on a peace officer. He was booked at West Valley Detention center.
Plaines, on the other hand, successfully fled the scene but was apprehended two days later. Officers located and arrested him at his residence in Hemet in the 1500 block of Calathea. Plaines has been charged with violation of civil rights and felony assault.
