“On March 6th, the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Yuba City Police Department, responded to a report of a shooting incident in the 1400 block of Countryside Dr. and Littlejohn Dr.
Initial reports were that a vehicle pulled up to the side of the house and fired numerous rounds into the backyard of a residence, where a gathering was taking place.
As a result of the investigation, 26-year-old Alex Rangel Romero and 20-year-old Miguel Angel Hernandez-Castro, both of Yuba City, were found deceased at the residence. Three additional victims were also injured and taken to Rideout Memorial Hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds.
On April 2nd, the Sheriff’s Office received notification from the Department of Justice regarding DNA profiles from evidence recovered at the scene of the shooting. The Sheriff’s Office conducted additional follow up, and on April 6th arrested 19-year-old Jorden McDaniel of Yuba City, 19-year-old Dominick Sanchez of Marysville, and 21-year-old Julio Nuno of Yuba City, for charges relating to firearms possession and participation in criminal street gang.
Additional DNA samples were obtained and further analyzed by the Department of Justice, directly linking McDaniel and Sanchez to evidence collected at the scene of the shooting. McDaniel and Sanchez have been booked on additional charges of alleged 187 of the California Penal Code- Homicide.
At least one of the firearms seized on April 6th is believed to be directly related to the shooting and is being examined further for ballistic comparisons. This investigation is still ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.
“Our detectives have been working diligently on this case. These types of investigations are challenging, and I sincerely hope we can support those that have been victimized, while sending a clear message this type of criminal behavior will not be tolerated in our community.” Sheriff Barnes said.”
