Man Arrested after an Automated License Plate Reader Detects a Stolen Car

BRENTWOOD — A man was arrested by Contra Costa County sheriff’s deputies after abandoning a stolen car and hiding in an orchard. The stolen car was initially spotted by an automated license plate reader on May 5.
Deputies were alerted about the stolen car, followed by a report concerning a gas station robbery in Discovery Bay. It seems the suspect at the gas station was driving the stolen car.
Converging deputies spotted the stolen car, prompting a high-speed chase from Discovery Bay to Brentwood. However, deputies briefly lost sight of the fleeing suspect when he drove into an orchard.
A perimeter was set up surrounding the orchard. However, the suspect was able to elude deputies in the thick cover of cherry trees. Eventually, the suspect decided to run away from the orchard and into a nearby neighborhood.
With assistance from an aerial drone and a helicopter, a sheriff’s office K-9 team located and finally arrested the suspect. He was apprehended in a backyard of a home located on the 300 block of Stanwick Street.
The suspect identified as Kale A. Roessler, 32 of Discovery Bay, was transported and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility.
He faces charges for –
Vehicle theft [10851(A)]
Robbery [211 PC]
Burglary [459 PC]
At this point, Roessler is no longer being held in custody. On May 10, a judge released him from jail on his own recognizance.
