Redwood City man arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run, vehicular homicide
The Redwood City police department has announced that a man has been arrested in connection to a recent fatal hit-and-run.
In the early morning hours of Monday, May 10th, a man was found unresponsive on the 1100 block of El Camino Real, reportedly having been struck by a U-Haul van that had then fled the scene. Medical personnel pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Witnesses told police that the driver of the van, described as a man in his 40’s with a dark complexion, had gotten out to inspect the damage, then gotten back into the van and drove off northbound on El Camino Real.
Later that same day, police were able to locate the van and its driver — identified as 69-year-old Carl Hofstetter — and conduct a traffic stop on the 300 block of El Camino Real. Hofstetter was arrested and booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and vehicular homicide.
