Sixteen-Year-Old Dies at the Hands of His Stepmother – History of Abuse Revealed
POMONA – A June 1st response at high noon to a call of unknown trouble with someone needing CPR brought Pomona Police Department and L.A. County Fire Department to the 600 Block of Del Rosa Place. There, both arriving agencies found a juvenile who was not breathing.
A quick transport to a nearby hospital resulted in medical personnel pronouncing the victim as deceased.
Investigation at the scene revealed that immediately prior to needing medical assistance, the 16-year-old had been assaulted by his stepmother.
Next, Pomona PD’s Major Crimes Unit Homicide Detectives arrived – to discover that abuse by significant injuries were delivered by the hands of the alleged suspect. Pomona PD Detectives took Jessica Grajeda (35) into custody.
Further investigation brought to light information about the juvenile’s father, George Luis Almaraz (32) – who’d been aware of the abuse and the injuries. His son was not provided medical attention, nor given proactive means to stop the abusive treatment.
Detectives took the father into custody. Five other children in the home, ages 1 through 13, were given protective custody prior to the Department of Children and Family Services taking charge of their care.
A few hours ago, the L.A. District Attorney’s Office filed one count of 187 PC, Murder against the stepmom. Also filed against her on June 3rd were multiple counts of child abuse.
The father was handed one count of felony child abuse. Both of the suspects remain in custody.
According to Pomona PD, “It does not appear at this time that any of the other children were being physically abused by their parents.”
