Amazon Delivery Driver Arrested after an Elderly Woman is Assaulted

CASTRO VALLEY — A delivery driver was arrested one block away from where a 67-year-old woman was assaulted. The now former Amazon driver was taken into custody outside an apartment complex.
The victim was assaulted June 3rd at approximately 6 p.m. It happened at the Vista Creek Apartments, located at 22432 Center Street.
A verbal dispute escalated between a woman driving an Amazon truck and a woman who lives at the apartment complex. This violent confrontation was recorded by surveillance cameras.
The assault occurred after a resident received a notification of a package delivery. The resident was kept waiting in a lobby. When the package arrived about 15 minutes later the two women argued.
The victim was backed up against a wall. She was punched in her face and head numerous times, while trying to fend off her attacker. The victim sustained injuries.
Alameda County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the incident. The suspect was located one block away at an adjacent apartment complex.
The suspect was identified as Itzel B. Ramirez, 21 of Oakland. Ramirez was detained and arrested outside Cedar North Apartments, located at 22240 Center Street.
It seems the suspect claimed she was acting in self-defense, but authorities did not believe her.
Ramirez was booked into Santa Rita Jail. Bond for her release from jail was set at $100,000 and she is no longer in custody.
The charges facing Ramirez are battery with serious bodily injury, and elder abuse.
