Off-Duty Border-Patrol Agent’s Heroic Moves Saves Pastor on a Sunday Afternoon
WESTMORLAND – The perfect timing of heroic moments is magnificent to behold. Such was the case when off-duty Border Patrol Agent Roy Rosas was travelling to work through Westmorland, a town in Imperial County approximately 18 miles from El Centro.
Agent Rosas witnessed an attempted carjacking in progress on Sunday afternoon at around 12:45 PM. As he headed towards the El Centro Sector, he saw a victim being attacked by a man attempting to take the victim’s car.
The victim, a local pastor, was assaulted by a 24-year-old Westmorland man. As the assailant attempted to carjack the vehicle, Agent Rosas joined in.
A three-way scuffle ensued between Agent Rosas, the private citizen, and the assailant. The aggressor was thwarted and successfully removed from the pastor’s vehicle.
The subdued aggressor was detained while awaiting the arrival of Westmorland Police Department. The carjacker was taken to a local hospital to treat minor injuries sustained in the scuffle.
Once released, the suspect was booked into the county jail. It had been quite a divine intervention on that Sunday afternoon.
“As sworn officers, Border Patrol agents risk their lives every day both on and off-duty,” said Chief Patrol Agent Gregory K. Bovino. “Agent Rosas’ actions demonstrated just that and brought great credit upon himself and the U.S. Border Patrol.”
