A man and woman were recently arrested for their alleged involvement in a shooting death in Stanton this past June.
A “confrontation between the suspect and victim in the parking lot” of the Mexico De Noche nightclub at around 2:30am on June 5th led to the shooting death of 28-year-old David Hernandez. When police arrived at the location, however, the victim and suspects were nowhere to be seen.
Hernandez was later found at a hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds.
Orange County Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators used video surveillance footage to identify a potential suspect vehicle, a 2015 or newer red Jeep Wrangler/Rubicon, fleeing the scene of the crime. They then reached out to the community to ask for help locating the vehicle. “After the appeal to the public, Investigators recovered the vehicle and were able to identify suspects,” states news release from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. The suspects were identified as 30-year-old Jose Perez-Ortiz of Torrance and 29-year-old Valerie Aguirre of Bellflower.
After serving several search warrants throughout the area of Southern California, the two suspects and a considerable number of incriminating items were located. The searches yielded over 30 firearms and 7 pounds of methamphetamine. Perez-Ortiz was arrested for homicide, and Aguirre was arrested for being an accessory to homicide.
The release continues, “‘These arrests showcase the tireless work of the men and women of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department to bring those who commit crimes to justice,’ Sheriff Don Barnes said. ‘The partnership between law enforcement and the community is an integral part of keeping Orange County safe. We will continue to protect our residents against those wanting to do harm.’”
