Shasta Lake City Man Arrested for 2020 Fatal Traffic Collision

“On Wednesday August 18th, 2021 at approximately 1:20 pm, Officers with the Redding Police Department Traffic Unit and Neighborhood Police Unit arrested Robert Maughs, 25 years, of Shasta Lake City for a warrant charging murder and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs causing injury.
On December 8th, 2020 the Redding Police Traffic Unit conducted a fatal vehicle collision that occurred at Lake Boulevard and Oasis Road. The collision investigation found that Robert Maughs was driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and failed to stop for a red signal light. Maughs struck another vehicle in the intersection which caused his vehicle to overturn and collide into a utility pole. The passenger in Maughs vehicle died as a result of the collision.
At the time of the collision Maughs was on California Department of Corrections Parole for driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, causing injury. Maughs was found to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs during this collision.
Maughs was receiving medical care as a result of this collision and was released from medical care recently. Officers with the Redding Police Department Traffic Unit worked with the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Maughs was booked into the Shasta County Jail for murder and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs causing injury.”
