When Ventura County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a call for service in the late afternoon of October 28th to a Dawson Drive residence in the City of Camarillo, they discovered a victim of a physical battering who described the alleged assailant as carrying a handgun in the waistband of his trousers.
Working with additional identifying details, the Camarillo Special Enforcement Detail—a team described by VCSD spokesman Sr. Deputy Matt Smith as “six plainclothes detectives who focus on efforts that negatively affect the quality of life of the law-abiding citizens of Camarillo”—went to work and tracked down the whereabouts of 48-year-old Camarillo resident Christopher Sherman.
Learning that Sherman is a convicted felon, a search warrant for his residence was obtained and served that same day, October 28th . Their search lead cops to the discovery of “a loaded firearm” as well as ammunition, a baton, and unpermitted “dangerous fireworks.”
Sherman was taken into custody and transported to Ventura County Jail, where he was booked on charges that included unlawful transfer of a firearm, possession of a loaded firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of a baton by a convicted felon, and possession of dangerous fireworks without a permit. He remains in custody with his bail set at $75,000.
