Norwalk man allegedly strikes deputy with vehicle, soon surrenders
A San Bernardino County man was arrested for allegedly striking a Sheriff’s deputy with his vehicle and was later released on bail, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
Just after 1 AM on Saturday, November 20, a deputy pulled over 26-year-old Anthony John Vasquez, after it was reported that Vasquez had been causing a disturbance in the parking lot of the Circle K gas station on the 8100 block of I Avenue in Hesperia.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, at some point during the traffic stop Vasquez, who already hadn’t been complying with instructions, backed his vehicle up and struck one deputy, as well as a parked patrol vehicle. At some point, a deputy-involved shooting occurred. The deputy was later treated for minor injuries at the hospital and released. Nobody was struck by gunfire.
Although Vasquez then initially started to flee the scene, he ultimately stopped the vehicle and surrendered to deputies, the Sheriff’s Department said.
He was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, but posted bail and was released the following day.
