“(Woodland, CA) – November 22, 2021 – On November 22, 2021, Yolo County Superior Court Judge David Rosenberg sentenced 41-year-old Davis man Jon Paul Dunlevy to 6 years in State Prison for the rape of an unconscious woman. Dunlevy, a twice convicted felon, will be required to register for the rest of his life as a convicted sex offender.
In October 2021, a jury heard that Dunlevy raped a sleeping woman who lay just feet from her sleeping boyfriend and friend. Earlier in the evening the victim had distracted Dunlevy as he, self-admittingly, was rubbing the bare legs of another unconscious woman whom he had just met. Dunlevy started raping the victim while she was sleeping. After she woke up and fought him off, Dunlevy acted as if nothing had happened and even laughed at the victim asking why she was hitting him.
Judge Rosenberg stated that Dunlevy was one of the “worst liars” he had seen in his courtroom. Judge Rosenberg noted that Dunlevy gave several excuses as to what occurred that evening. The excuses ranged from mistaken identity, to it never happened, to claiming it was only a kiss, to it was an accident, to claiming the victim engaged in lewd conduct to induce him.
The victim, who testified at trial, addressed the Court with an emotional victim impact statement. She bravely outlined the lasting effects the crime has had on her and her family. The victim thanked the Sexual Assault Response Team and the Davis Police Department for all their compassion in listening and helping her through the traumatic process that victims of sexual assault go through after reporting.
District Attorney Jeff Reisig said “The victim in this case was beyond courageous. She reported the crime despite Mr. Dunlevy being in the same room with her and continued through with her report despite others trying to dissuade her. She gave an incredibly powerful impact statement, which no-doubt, played a key-role into Mr. Dunlevy receiving his 6-year prison term. Her tremendous display of courage is an inspiration and hopefully, gives that same courage to others to come forward.”
