Nobody ever said that being a parent was an easy gig. In fact, successfully raising healthy children in today’s world is arguably a much more challenging job than running a country.
But the difficulty of that task does not excuse a parent’s failure to properly carry out the mission. When a father or mother completely abdicate their responsibility to their own children to the point that it becomes a matter of criminality, the legal consequences can be severe.
According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. William Hutton, who is attached to the Sheriff’s Major Crime and Homicide Bureaus, those consequences are about to rain down upon Thousand Oaks resident Tekquan Alexander.
When VCSD deputies showed up at a Lemonberry Place home just before noon on November 29th in response to an ambulance and Ventura County Fire Department call to that location, they discovered Fire Department personnel engaged in cardiopulmonary resuscitation upon a 4-year-old female. Paramedics then trundled the child into an ambulance for transport to a local hospital and for subsequent treatment of “severe injuries caused by physical child abuse.”
Alexander was promptly identified as the girl’s father and as the suspect in her apparent beating. He was taken into custody and transported to Ventura County Jail, where he was charged with mayhem and felony child abuse.
A subsequent warrant search of the Alexander residence lead to the discovery of “an unsecured assault rifle and handgun,” both items in violation of Alexander’s post-release parole status.
Alexander remains in custody with his bail set at $500,000 while his daughter remains hospitalized in critical condition.
