“On Friday, December 17, 2021, at approximately 7:42 a.m., the Santa Rosa Police Department was notified about an 11-year-old girl who had just been touched inappropriately by a stranger.
The victim was walking to school when she was approached by an adult male, who was also walking on West College Av, near Clover Drive.
The male then touched the victim inappropriately at least two times over clothing. The victim was able to get away from the male, and ran into a store in the 1200-block of West College Av. The victim asked for help, and store employees called SRPD for help.
Police officers responded to the store and found the suspect being detained outside of the store by two citizens.
Detectives from the SRPD Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault team responded and took over the investigation.
The detectives ultimately placed Ernesto Camacho Abarca, a 49-year-old resident of Santa Rosa, under arrest for two counts of 288(a) PC (lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age). Camacho Abarca was booked at the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility with a $200,000 bail.
The victim and her family were provided services through the Sonoma County Family Justice Center. Based on the nature of the investigation and the age of the victim, no additional information will be provided about the victim.
Due to the serious nature of this crime, we are reaching out the community to see if any other children have been potential victims of a similar situation. Ernesto Camacho Abarca’s booking photograph is being released only to see if he might be a suspect in other similar crimes. If you believe you or your child has been a victim, please contact the SRPD Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault unit at (707) 543-3595.
