“On 2/13/2022 at 3:30 PM, we received a ShotSpotter activation of several rounds in the 1200 block of Tyler St. and a second activation of more rounds further down the block on Tyler St. seconds later. Multiple callers reported vehicles chasing one another and possibly shooting at one another.
Involved vehicles were described as a red Honda and a white vehicle, possibly a Lexus or Acura. The last update was that involved vehicles were at a gas station at N. Main & Laurel.
Officers arrived and observed the occupants of a red Honda hatchback and black Chevy Malibu in a fight with an unassociated male. Officers also observed a suspect later identified as Morgan Gonzalez (23) get into the front passenger seat of the Honda with a firearm. As officers approached, the Honda fled, and officers pursued the vehicle. Gonzalez exited the vehicle and fled on foot with a firearm in his hand. He threw the gun and was quickly taken into custody on Huntington Ave. The Honda was not located
Other officers located the Malibu at Rochex & Clairmont. Jesus Olguin (26) and another male passenger identified as Sergio Cruz (21). We contacted and arrested without incident. Olguin is on parole. Cruz was on probation and found to be in possession of meth.
When the dust settled, victims, (25) and (23) were contacted in a white Acura. They told the officers someone had thrown a beer can at their vehicle, and they subsequently were chased by the two suspect vehicles through streets in north Salinas firing several gunshots at them in the process.
Officers located evidence of a shooting on Tyler St including a .40 caliber handgun. Morgan Gonzalez was later transported to county jail facing charges of attempted homicide, conspiracy, and other gun related charges. Jesus Olguin also went to county jail on conspiracy, criminal threats, violation of parole among others.
A third suspect, Sergio Cruz was also transported to jail and was lodged on conspiracy and drug related charges.
Officers conducted a check of the area for other possible victims, but none were located, and nobody was injured, the investigation continues.
