Man wielding knife shot, killed at Vacaville Police Department
An officer involved shooting occurred at the Vacaville Police Department resulting in the death of a man on Thursday.
According to a Vacaville Police Department press release, a male entered the lobby of the Vacaville Police Department at about 3 p.m.
The man, who was displaying “bizarre and irrational behavior” requested to meet with officers, but left soon after arriving to the lobby. A request was made to the Communications Center to check on the well being of the man after he left the lobby.
An officer responded to the area of the front parking lot of the police department approximately 20 minutes later when the man confronted the officer with a knife. The man was reported to be displaying verbally threatening behavior as he advanced toward the officer. The officer, who believed his life was in danger, discharged his duty weapon at the man, striking him.
According to the press release, additional officers arrived to the scene and began performing life-saving efforts on the man. He was transported to Kaiser Vacaville, but later died.
The Solano County Coroner’s office is working to identify the man and notifying his next of kin. The incident will be investigated by the Solano County District Attorney’s Office and the Solano County Coroner’s office.
