Suspect Arrested in Connection with September Shooting on Highway 24
CASTRO VALLEY — A man arrested in connection with a freeway shooting in September has two other driving-related cases pending from last year. The suspect was identified as Troy G. Nicholson Jr., a 20-year-old resident of Castro Valley.
A five-month investigation resulted in Nicholson’s arrest February 16, by detectives from the California Highway Patrol Golden Gate Division. He is accused of shooting at an occupied vehicle on Highway 24 during the beginning of rush hour.
This shooting occurred September 16 at 3:30 p.m., while the suspect and victim were driving eastbound, west of the Caldecott Tunnel. Fortunately, the victim was not injured.
Responding CHP officers located the victim pulled over and stopped on the highway shoulder. The victim’s vehicle was riddled with multiple bullet holes.
Nicholson faces charges for attempted murder, shooting at an occupied vehicle, and assault with a firearm on a person. The case is under review by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.
Last year, Nicholson was arrested twice. On June 6, he was arrested by Pleasanton police for carrying a loaded firearm and possession of a large capacity magazine. For this incident, he has been charged with carrying a loaded firearm inside a vehicle.
Nicholson was also arrested on May 15 by the CHP, in another pending case for driving under the influence of drugs. The September shooting incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information can call the CHP at 707-917-4491.
