Vacaville police arrest man with help of K-9 team
Vacaville police arrested a 49-year-old man on Tuesday with the help of several K-9 teams.
According to a Vacaville Police Department press release, Vacaville Police Crime Suppression Team Detective Erik Watts attempted to pull the driver of an off-road motorcycle over who was not wearing a helmet while traveling on Davis Street. The driver sped away from the detective at a high speed in a residential area. The officer then discontinued his pursuit because of safety concerns.
Shortly after, Det. Watts and K-9 Officer Marc Raymond were flagged down by a “concerned citizen” who directed the two to the abandoned motorcycle. The vehicle had been reported stolen just minutes before being spotted by Det. Watts. The driver of the motorcycle was spotted running from the scene.
Officers set up a perimeter in the area, and several K-9 teams began to look for the suspect. He was eventually found to be in the 600 block of William Street, but refused to give himself up. The suspect, who was identified as Darrell Sewell, is known by officers as a former parolee who has fought with and injured officers in the past. K-9 Officer Raymond’s partner, Kamos, was sent to apprehend Sewell, which was done successfully.
According to the press release, Sewell was arrested and treated at the Vaca Valley Hospital. Once released, he was taken to the Solano County Jail where he was charged for vehicle theft, evading police, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, and driving with a suspended license.
