BEVERLY HILLS – A robbery at the home of philanthropist Jacqueline Avant (81) had tragic results during a break-in when the man attempted to kill her security guard. Aariel Maynor (dob 2/1/92) killed her, instead.
The shots aimed at the security guard left him unscathed. The Beverly Hills Police Department opened Case #SA105722 for investigation.
Delving investigators discovered that Maynor headed over to the Hollywood Hills that same night for another home break-in. Allegedly, while there, he accidentally shot himself.
As a result, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced the man’s recent guilty plea, plus “entered an open plea to one count each of first-degree murder, attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a felon as well as two counts of first-degree residential burglary with person present. He also admitted an allegation that he used an assault long barrel pistol during the crimes.”
At Maynor’s sentencing scheduled to take place on March 30th at L.A. Superior Court, the judge has the discretion to hand down a sentence for up to 170 years-to-life in prison. Gascon also noted that there is no possibility for the defendant to be eligible for elderly parole.
Gascon added, “This crime continues to shock the conscience – Mrs. Avant’s death was a tragic loss felt by our entire community. Our Bureau of Victim Services will continue to be in contact with the family and their representatives to offer trauma-informed services.”
