Large Party Gets Out of Hand
SALINAS—Officers from the Salinas Police Department arrested one teenager and cited another after they responded to a report of a loud party complaint on the 800 block of Central Avenue. Aaron Vasquez, 19, of Salinas was cited and Marcelis Short, 19, also of Salinas was arrested.
At around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning, officers responded to a loud party complaint at the 800 block of Central Avenue. When they arrived officers found over 100 people were attending the party and some of them were underage.
Officers contacted Short after he was seen leaving the party with a large empty glass vodka bottle. As officers began to interview him he became argumentative and aggressive towards them.
Short pushed an officer in the chest as he approached him. When the officer attempted to take Short into custody he became combative and tried to run away from them.
“Short became combative and broke away from the officers.” Salinas Police Officer Miguel Cabrera said. “As the officers gave chase they ‘tased’ him to get him into custody.”
As the officers were taking him into custody Short began trying to incite the crowd. He was taken into custody without further incidences. Officers cited Vasquez, the host of the party, for the city’s social hosting ordinance.
Short was booked into the Monterey County Jail for battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.
The Salinas Police Department is still investigating this incident. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Salinas Police Department at (800) 782-7463 or WeTip at (800) 78-CRIME.
