BERKELEY — Two persons were arrested after one man was killed and a woman was injured at a bungalow with a history of shootings. The young man was pronounced dead at the scene at 1117 Channing Way.
On the evening of May 4, police responded to a report of gunfire at the home. Officers located an unresponsive man fatally shot lying on the floor. The woman who was shot left the scene before police arrived.
She went to a hospital seeking medical attention for a gunshot wound. Investigators quickly learned that she had been shot at the same Channing Way home.
The homeowner, 73-year-old Linetta Head, was arrested at the Berkeley police station on May 4. Head was booked on suspicion of being an accessory after the fact. However, she is no longer in custody.
The shooting suspect, 20-year-old Devin Carrihill, resides at the bungalow. Carrihill was arrested on May 5 at 4 p.m. However, he was taken into custody at the Alta Vista Apartments, located at 10900 MacArthur Boulevard in Oakland.
Carrihill was booked into Santa Rita Jail. He presently faces 17 charges, including murder and assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and other weapons-related charges. He is ineligible for release on bond, pending a plea hearing on May 27.
The suspect was previously convicted for burglary stemming from a looting incident. He also has prior arrests in January 2021 and January 2022 for illegal possession of firearms.
As for the Channing Way bungalow, it was also the scene of another shooting in September 2021. That time, a 16-year-old girl, was injured by gunfire.
