Alleged Gang Shooter Booked on Attempted Murder
Ventura County – It must have been an intimidating scene in the pre-dawn hours of August 16th as officers from Moorpark Police Department, Ventura County SWAT, East and West Ventura County Gang and Major Crimes Units, and the Thousand Oaks Special Enforcement Unit served a search warrant on a Moorpark neighborhood residence.
According to Ventura County Sheriff Public Information Officer Sgt. Jeff Miller, the show of force was marshaled pursuant to the investigation of reports of an August 13th shooting specifically targeting a known local area gang member. “Several suspects were involved in a confrontation,” Miller reported to the media, explaining that one of them fired shots at his intended victim, missing him but firing several rounds into a nearby home. “Fortunately, the victim escaped” Miller reported, and there were no injuries.
The ensuing investigation brought Oscar Enrique Magdaleno, 19, a known area gang member to the attention of authorities, but their early-morning warrant search of his residence proved fruitless. It was five hours later, just after 10:00 a.m., that Magdaleno was observed by deputies on neighborhood patrol. A brief foot pursuit brought Magdaleno into submission, and he was taken into custody.
Magdaleno was booked into Ventura County Jail on charges of attempted murder, street terrorism, and resisting arrest, where he remains with bail set at $500,000.
Ventura County Sheriffs are seeking help from the public, with Ventura County Crime Stoppers offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and filing of charges for anyone involved in this crime. Such reports can be made anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
