“Merced – On May 20, 2022 at 10:01A.M., Merced Police received a call regarding a bank robbery at PNC Bank located at 3065 G Street in Merced. A male suspect robbed the bank by passing a note to the teller. The suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency.
Detectives responded and were able to obtain still photos of the suspect from when he was inside the bank. A witness also provided a video of the suspect fleeing the scene in a white van. A detective observed a man fleeing from the area in the van, a short while later. The man driving the van matched the description of the suspect from the bank robbery. A traffic stop was attempted on the van and a pursuit was initiated after the driver of the van fled at a high rate of speed. The driver crashed and ran from the van in the 2300 block of Ash Avenue in Merced. An extensive search of the area was conducted but the driver was not located.
Detectives later determined that the driver of the van was 47-year-old Jzon Edward Buckner of Merced. Buckner is on Federal Probation and State Parole for previous robberies that he committed. A parole search was conducted on Buckner’s residence. The clothing that Buckner was wearing during the robbery and an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency were found in a trash can nearby.
On Saturday May 21 at approximately 12:07 PM the Merced Police Department received a tip that Buckner was in the 700 block of West 16th Street waiting on a bus. Officers arrived and arrested Buckner without further incident.
Buckner is being booked into Merced County Jail on his outstanding warrant for Robbery and for a violation of his parole.”
