CULVER CITY – One man’s repertoire of public-transit terror morphed into a shopping nightmare. Culver City Police Department (CCPD) alerted to a radio call for service on on May 31, 2022 at approximately 4:30 PM.
A stabbing on a Culver City Bus had occurred at the transfer station on 6000 Sepulveda Blvd. An arriving officer located the stabbing victim, as Culver City Fire Department arrived on-scene to provide medical aid.
The victim suffered a stab to his right elbow. Fortunately, the wound was not life-threatening. Officers took the victim’s statement – about the suspect approaching him while on the bus, unprovoked, and began to punch him in the face. The assault included the suspect pulling out a hunting knife, stabbing the victim, and fleeing the area on foot.
Responding officers located and detained the suspect in the immediate area. During the detainment, an additional victim approached the CCPD Officers.
The second victim ID’d the suspect as someone who’d attempted to rob him inside Trader Joe’s. The suspect had approached the victim with an unknown object in his hand.
When a demand for the wallet was unsuccessful, the suspect attempted to physically remove it from his rear pocket. “In fear for his life, the victim was able to run away from the suspect and flag down CCPD Officers,” said Culver City Police Department Sergeant Eddie Baskaron.
Both victims and several witnesses positively ID’d the anonymous suspect (28) from Long Beach. The man was placed under arrest for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Attempted Robbery.
The ongoing investigation will not release the name of the suspect at this time, to preserve the integrity of the investigation. In addition, the case will presented for filing consideration to the the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
