A Sonoma County man was recently arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run and felony DUI, according to police.
On the night of Saturday, June 11, police were called to the area of Kentucky and Washington Streets in Petaluma for a report of a collision. Responding officers discovered that multiple vehicles had been involved in the collision and that a pedestrian had also been struck, police said.
After gathering statements and investigating the scene, police determined that one of the drivers — identified as 22-year-old Evan Weise — had been driving on northbound Kentucky Street and struck a pedestrian crossing in a crosswalk, collided with another vehicle at Kentucky and Washington, then veered off the road and crashed into a tree.
One of the vehicles Weise struck reportedly then fled the scene, with the driver of that vehicle striking two other cars in the process, police said.
Witnesses at the scene attempted to render aid to Weise, to which Weise responded by allegedly punching one of them in the face when they approached him. He was also uncooperative with officers and kicked one of them, ultimately having to be placed in a restraint device, police said.
Weise, whom police believe was under the influence of narcotics, was treated and medically cleared at hospital and then arrested and booked on suspicion of DUI, hit-and-run, battery, and assault on an officer.
