SAN JACINTO – A simple traffic enforcement stop on a driver in a white Mercedes turned up the heat on Sunday 06/12/2022 when a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department San Jacinto Station Deputy observed what appeared to be driving under the influence. The stop-attempt at 2:02 AM, taking place near the 400 block of Victoria Avenue, resulted in the driver fleeing in an attempt to evade the deputy.
A pursuit ensued – lasting approximately 60 minutes as the chase snaked throughout San Jacinto, the unincorporated area of Hemet, and into the City of Hemet. During the pursuit, three individuals hopped out of the Mercedes and fled on foot.
The three subjects were detained at a later point. As the driver continued on, he veered into a trailer park on the 600 block of State Street.
Robert Bargas (40), of Hemet, surrendered in the vehicle that was later learned to be stolen out of Temecula. Added to that was his status as a suspect wanted in 5 cities.
Bargas was being hunted for multiple burglaries throughout San Jacinto and Hemet, along with Riverside, Menifee, and Newport Beach. Proof of his crimes was discovered in the stolen Mercedes.
