As if it isn’t difficult enough in these post-pandemic days to find someone to repair a deck or to correct a do-it-yourself job that might have been more difficult than anticipated, the circumstances leading to the arrest of a local area contractor on charges of forgery and conspiracy might indicate that another dozen trips to Home Depot just might be the safest way
to get the work done yourself.
According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Detective John Lemar, it was on the afternoon of June 28 th when Ventura residents 32-year-old Francisco Arevalo and 39-year- old Rosalia Salinas were tracked down and taken into custody in “the last known area where both suspects were working” on a residential remodeling job.
Their arrests came as a result of the work of the Fillmore Police Detective Bureau and the VCSD Narcotics Street Team and their work investigating the theft of checks from a residence where Arevalo had been “working as a contractor,” and the subsequent “attempt to deposit the stolen check” by Salinas into her own bank account.
When Arevalo and Salinas were taken into custody, “a search of their vehicle yielded additional stolen mail and financial documents” indicating a pattern of ongoing thefts of financial documents. Both Arevalo and Salinas were arrested and booked into Ventura County Jail on charges of conspiracy to commit a crime, alteration of financial documents, and check forgery,
with their bail set at $120,000 and $50,000 respectively.
