A 24-year-old man has been arrested for the fatal hit-and-run collision that killed a 56-year-old man from Highland.
The suspect, Kyle Cornwell of Highland, was booked at the Central Detection Center for felony hit-and-run. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
The fatal collision took place at about 10 p.m. on July 2nd, near Baseline Street and McKinley Avenue in Highland. Officers arrived to find the victim lying in the middle of Baseline Street, unresponsive and suffering from critical injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Witnesses reported that the driver of a white 1999 Dodge Ram was seen fleeing the scene right after the collision took place. The intersection was closed for several hours during the investigation, and evidence leading to the vehicle owner’s residence was located at the scene.
Police went to the residence, where they “contacted the owner of the Dodge and discovered Kyle Cornwell had been driving the truck at the time of the collision,” said Detective Adam Hylin. “Cornwell was located and interviewed about the collision.” He was arrested at the conclusion of the interview.
