Fillmore man arrested on litany of charges, including weapons and narcotics
VENTURA COUNTY — An enterprising entrepreneur might find a good business opportunity by servicing the drug- dealing and gun-toting criminal community with driving lessons, if the July 1 st arrest of 23-year- old Fillmore resident Joseph Anthony Ramos is any indication.
According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Detective Ken Ledesma, on the evening of July 1 st , Ramos was simply driving down Ventura Street in the City of Fillmore when he committed a traffic violation that gave members of the Sheriff’s Gang Unit (SGU) probable cause to conduct “a traffic stop” of his vehicle.
Once contact with Ramos was made, pursuant to the SGU’s mission of “protecting communities from criminal street gang terrorism,” the detectives conducted a search of Ramos’ vehicle.
That search led to the discovery of “an unregistered semi-automatic handgun, ammunition, a Billy Club, methamphetamine, and assorted narcotics paraphernalia.” That evidence of illegal firearm and controlled substance activities in his possession was enough to quickly have Ramos in handcuffs and on his way to Ventura County Jail.
Once there, he was booked on “various firearm, weapons, narcotics, and traffic violations,” an indication that Ramos would be well advised to find a good driving school once he posts bond on his $100,000 bail amount.
